Potentials

Potential functions (Green functions) can be defined outside the (filled) Julia sets and the Mandelbrot set. The black and white pictures below show these functions for some typical filled Julia sets.




These colored pictures (that really look like relief maps) are generated by the applet OTIS in the Sea. The applet also shows the potential functions "inside" the Julia set. More presicely, it also calculates the potential functions for attracting cycles.
